Store Cattle & Store Sheep
Store Cattle
Hexham & Northern Marts at their weekly sale offered a smaller entry of 216 head of store cattle due largely to the onset of lambing time.
A varied catalogue attracted a useful crowd of buyers from across the North of England, with trade peaking at £1990 for a cracking Angus Bullock from the Watson Family, Holywell Farms.
Continental sorts topped at £1960 for a hefty red Limousin Bullock from Messrs Herdman, Lunns House and the female trade climaxed at £1850 for a nice Angus heifer from Mark Featherstone, Allendale Farm.
Younger types also remain in demand despite easier finished rates and cattle in the middle age bracket of 11-17 months topped at £1770 for a thumping Charolais cross from The Sintons of White House, whilst Limousin heifers topped at £1540 from Hazel Clark, Holly Hill West.
Weanlings also maintained recent levels and topped at £1510 for a ten-month-old belter of a bullock from Ken Ridley, Allenshields.
Messrs Campbell, Moorhouse Gate followed at £1450 with another well-bred Limousin steer calf and Charolais crosses at the same age sold to £1340 and £1320 from the Younger family at High Trewhitt.
With no sale on Good Friday, the auctioneers invite entries for Friday 5th April.
