Store Cattle

Hexham and Northern Marts held its weekly sale of 378 Store Cattle and Suckled calves with this week incorporating the monthly sale for Native bred cattle. A varied show of cattle throughout todays sale which met a firm trade, no different to previous weeks. Strong cattle again well sold at the beginning of the day. Well bred native cattle once again commanded a premium here at Hexham leaving producers extremely satisfied with their days trading.

Leaving the ring smelling of roses was Brian Tailford of Beacon Rigg who sold Limousin cross steers to £2060.00 and £1980.00. Leading the native charge was a thumping Angus cross steer from Messrs D & J Baty, Catreen selling to £1920.00. Mr J Atkinson & Son, East Beechfield returned with more well fleshed Angus steers peaking at £1900.00 twice.

Leading the heifer trade and making the trip east along the A69 over the Cumbrian border was SWS Agri Services, Arnold House who sold Charolais heifers to £1840.00. The same home cashed another Charolais heifer for £1700.00.

Highest priced native heifer came from Messrs F Hall & Sons, East Butsfield who sold an Angus cross for £1660.00. Messrs R C Bramwell & Sons, High Barns weren’t far behind selling Angus cross heifers to £1640.00.

A very mixed show of quality in the weaned and suckled calf section this week with the better end still realising exceptional returns, leaving many producers well up on the year.

Messrs K & HA Ridley, Allenshields came once again with quality year old Limousin cattle selling to £1580.00 for steers and £1520.00 for heifers the same age.
