Store Cattle
Hexham and Northern Marts held its first sale of 2024 which comprised of 175 Store Cattle and Suckled Calves. The first sale of the year did not disappoint, and dearer values were seen compared to pre-Christmas. A cracking average of £1343 was achieved for Store Cattle and Suckled Calves combined.
Highlighting Hexham’s reputation for attaining leading rates for forward stores was a terrific Black Limousin cross steer from Devenport Farms, Blakelaw, selling to £2020.00. A thumping Angus cross steer from Phil and Shaun Watson, Holywell Farms sold to £1960.00 whilst a shapey Charolais cross steer from Mrs V S Allgood, Nunwick sold to £1900.00. Steers right through went on to average £1456.
Leading lady today also came from Mrs V S Allgood, Nunwick, a Charolais cross once again selling to £1870.00. British Blue cross heifers from Hilary and Andrew Hutchinson, Lee Hall went on to realise £1760.00.
A slightly plainer selection of heifers this week on the whole, but still sold well and averaged £1286 throughout.
A small selection of suckled calves this week but those forward were rewarded with great returns. Ten-month-old Limousin cross steers from Mr B Watson, Baal Hill peaked at £1200.00 and nine month heifers from Messrs W Faill & Sons, Hedley West Riding sold to £1090.00.
Auctioneers are actively seeking cattle to fulfill the current uplift in demand. Incorporated with next week’s sale is the New Year show for Store Cattle. Please contact Auctioneers or the office by 11am Monday morning with entries.
