Store Cattle & Store Sheep

Store Cattle

Hexham & Northern Marts held their first store sale in the festive month of December and offered a good entry for the time of year of 315 head of store cattle.  Despite inclement weather and poor travelling conditions a full catalogue was presented albeit to a smaller ringside of buyers that braved the snow and frost to witness another hot trade at Hexham.

Trade peaked at £1900 for a hefty black Angus bullock from Messrs Burn, Aydonshields, Hexhamshire who averaged £1776 for three great steers all sired by the registered bull.

Next in the rankings came an outstanding Limmy cross bullock at just 13 months of age from another Hexhamshire holding, that of noted breeders of top quality sorts Messrs Stobbs, High Dalton.  The tremendous steer soared in the ring and eventually settled at £1860 and with another at £1770 and a pair of heifers at £1660 the great days trading was rounded off for Messrs Stobbs with a super average of £1631 for seven yearling types sold on the day.

Heifers sold as well as their male counterparts and a number exceeded vendors expectations, not least the class leader from Lewis Forster, West Nubbuck that climbed to £1840 and this fine, shapely Limmy lady was purchased, amongst others to serve as high end herd replacements on The Roman Wall.

The youngest class of cattle also sold well on the day and peaked at £1270 for a super Limmy bullock at 10 months from Sarah Martin, Heatheridge with heifers at a similar age selling to £1190 from Messrs Lee, Agars Hill.

With demand showing little sign of easing the auctioneers are keen to speak with any producers that are contemplating consigning cattle for sale at Hexham before the Christmas break with two further sales scheduled for December being Friday the 8th and 15th.  Please call our team on 01434 605444 to enter cattle for sale by 12 noon every Monday or to speak with an auctioneer regarding the marketing of your cattle to best advantage.
