Store Cattle & Store Sheep

Store Cattle
Hexham and Northern Marts held its weekly catalogued sale of 337 store cattle and suckled calves which this week incorporated the month native sale of store cattle. Another good trade observed throughout with vendors consistently, week in week out pleased with the returns achieved.
Forward stores saw a slight lift compared to recent weeks, especially the better end. Leading the sale for a second week in succession was the Ridley family, Shitlington Hall with a marvelous black, Limousin cross steers that went on to realise £1770.00 with a black pair also breaking the £1700.00 barrier, selling to £1730.00.
Oxley Farming Ltd, Colwell Farm brought their usual stamp of thumping Charolais cross steers to sell to £1750.00.
The most notable lift in trade was for the better end of continental heifers, destined for the live prime ring. Mr R A Ogle sold a fabulous, black Limousin cross heifer for £1720.00. Messrs A J Marr & Son, Old Ravensworth Farm sold Limousin cross heifers to £1690.00.
Leading native bred beast this week came from Messrs G & JH Tomlinson & Son, Sunniside Farm with an Angus cross steer selling to £1635.00. The highest priced Native heifer came from regular Hexham consignor, Messrs A & A G Moralee, Lowfield Bungalow with an Angus cross heifer selling to £1420.00.
Younger, year old cattle saw a slight lift also with Mrs A Anderson, Horncastle Farm selling Angus cross steers to £1260.00.
Messrs E Cuthbert & Son, Low Town made a successful trip down the A1 with a fine run of a dozen, yearling Limousin cross heifers that went on to reach a high of £1330.00 and averaged on the top side of £1100.
More cattle could have easily been sold to vendors benefit today. We are actively seeking more entries for the forthcoming weeks to fulfill demand.
