Store Cattle

Hexham and Northern held its weekly catalogued sale of 271 store cattle and suckled calves with a very seasonal offering forward this week with many vendors now getting through their autumn runs of cattle.

All classes once again met a solid trade and would possibly buck the trend of other centres earlier in the week and be slightly dearer on the week for the quality forward, resulting in an impressive average of £1295.99 throughout.

Leading the sale at £1860.0 was M W & C M Ridley, Shitlington Hall with an impressive pair of Limousin cross steers. Not far behind and making a successful return to the Hexham ring was Devenport Farms, Blakelaw, who sold a very stylish red roan Limousin cross heifer for £1850.00.

Regular weekly supporters Messrs G & JH Tomlinson & Son, Sunniside were back once again with forward Angus cross cattle and sold a pair of steers to £1830.00. Another from the land of the Prince Bishops was Mr J Sisterson, Newlands Haugh who returned second week running with his second draw steers, selling Charolais crosses to £1810.00 and £1800.00 twice.

Messrs T Nixon & Sons, Longlea brought forward a marvelous run of yearling Limousin cross steers and heifers which went on to peak at £1640.00 for a very stylish 12-month heifer and £1560.00 for steers of the same age.

Yearling Limousin cross Young Bulls forward from W Parker & Sons, Spittalshield sold to £1290.00.
