Store Cattle & Store Sheep

Store Cattle

Hexham and Northern Marts held its weekly sale of Store Cattle and Suckled Calves, with this weeks sale incorporating the monthly “native sale”. This weeks Store Cattle offering predominantly consisted of Aberdeen Angus cross heifers and plainer continentals. Trade for these exceeded vendors expectations, especially given the recent fall in prime cattle prices.

Two beasts took the top spot of £1460.00 this week, firstly a thick Angus cross heifer from Mr R M Johnston, High Fotherley. Following that was a well grown, thirteen-month-old steer from Mrs A Wilkinson & Sons, New Rift.

A handful of suckled calves forward this week which met a marvelous trade with plenty of customers looking for the better end of continentals still. The pick of this section was a lovely run of eight and nine month old Limousin cross steers and heifers from Messrs TR & EA Milburn, Wallend which went on to achieve a high of £1260.00 for a curvaceous heifer.
