Gimmer Lambs
St John’s Chapel Mart held its annual sale of Mule Gimmer Lambs and presented a strong entry of 1735 quality NEMSA lambs the majority consigned by vendors from Weardale and Alston. A phenomenal all in average of £197.57 was achieved up £44.93 on the year leaving all vendors very pleased with their days trading at St John’s Chapel once again.
The highly contested presale show saw 9 sweet pens of 10 ably judged by big Mule enthusiast Mr Stephen Deeming, Rugby. The 9 pens were an absolute credit to all consignors with many commenting that had not seen such quality throughout all season especially given the dry summer in the area.
Judging the run of 50 or more was in the very capable hands of another big Mule enthusiast Mr Stephen Ridley, Appleby.

J Bowes, Glenwhelt House is always in amongst the high heights of prizes peaking at £280 with other pens at £228 and £225 for some very flashy lambs.
The Champion pen soon followed from C Hodgeson, Hill House reaching £335 selling to the judge, Mr Deeming now 3 years in a row Chris has won the championship at St John’s Chapel, the day soon got even better when the Hill House team also claimed champion for the best run of 50 or more with 2 more pens both at £230 and others at £215 and £210 with this home seeing a rise of £54 on the year, well deserved for Chris and Karen.
J M & K Robinson, Ling Riggs followed with a fantastic run of Lambs, reaching £270 for their 3rd prize pen of 10 and having 8 pens over the £200 barrier.
Again, credit must go to all consigners for bringing forward such great sheep given the dry Summer in the area it is a pleasure to sell such stock.
All at Hexham & Northern Marts would like to thank all vendors, buyers and everyone else who made this day a success and for their continued support at St John’s Chapel mart.
