St Johns Chapel held its last sale of the 2025 season, presenting another superb entry of 1742 Feeding Ewes & Store Lambs from Weardale, Teesdale, Alston, Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.
A commendable show of sheep was forward at this additional sale which averaged £98.03, with a consignment of 658 Swale lambs.
Topping the lambs at £149 was Mr O Harrison, Aimshaugh with great Texel cross lambs to £136 and £130, this home went on to average £121.09.
Next up at £148 was G D Wilson, Hawthornside who made the successful trip from the Scottish Borders to St Johns to average £140.28 for a fantastic consignment of Texel cross lamb. Not to forget R W Dalton, West End with Texel cross lambs at £134 and averaging £126.53 for 121 lambs sold. A run of 57 pens of Texel cross lambs sold over £105.
Suffolk cross lambs reached £145 from I Collinson, Billing Shield.
Mules once again sold to great rates at St Johns, peaking at £137 for a dozen from Mr I Potts, Redburn who also sold pens of Mules to £136 and £134. A respectable 24 pens of Mule lambs sold over £100 and all in averaged £111.18 for 357. Praise must go to all Vendors for presenting such good stock, even at this late stage of the season.
Swaledale lambs were once again easily cashed here at St Johns, 3861 Swaledale store lambs have been sold in the last 2 months, to fantastic rates, with another 658 sold on Saturday to average all in £75.70 and topping at £110 for 28 strong Swales. Topping was J Bowes, Glenwhelt House, this home averaged £86.22 for 155 Swale lambs forward. R Collingwood, Stewartshield Meadows sold Swales to £100 as well as D Collinwgood, Intake selling his pen to £99 along with Weardale Estates.
Feeding Ewes sold to £210 for a Texel from Mr O Harrison, Aimshaugh, who also sold Cheviot Mules to £159.
Mules reached a high of £133 from J A & J D Robinson, Middle Farm.
Swale peaked at £110 from P Walton, Bowes Close.
