Store Cattle & Store Sheep
29.05.2026
Hexham and Northern Marts held its final sale of May with an end of season type entry, with many now coming to the end of the spring offering of store cattle. Trade like last week was very competitive and looked a good trade considering the current prime values. A very small entry of forward, short keep feeding cattle this week, but what was forward sold to a great trade. The sale topped at £2400.00 for a BB x steer from J Carr & Co, Camp Hill. The small offering of short keep heifers sold to £2080.00 on two occasions. Firstly a Limousin cross heifer from E & I Hall & Son, Hallington New Houses. This was then equalled by a stylish, black Limousin heifer later in the sale from DA & MA Teasdale, Grindon Hill.
The younger, grazing type cattle met a great trade for the quality forward. The top end of weaned calves and yearling cattle met a fantastic trade selling to £2180.00 for a Limousin cross steer from John Lamb of Wall Town Farm ,Wall. A powerful run of 11 month old Angus cross steers from JR Nevin & Son, Parkside sold to £1980.00 and £1920.00. G H & A Walton, Farnbury sold their usual stamp of quality weaned Limousin cross cattle which were again highly sought after, with eight month old steers selling to £1840.00 and £1820.00.
Hector & Roger Rutherford brought a powerful run of 10–11-month-old Limousin cross steers & heifers as usual which saw a high of £1920.00 for steers and the highest priced weaned heifer which sold to £1740.00.
A nice packet of Pure yearling Aberdeen Angus heifers from WD Allen, Stoop Hill, Alnwick sold to a high of £1950.00 for a pair of heifers and £1780.00 for a pen of three.
Store Bulls
This week saw our special monthly section for Young Bulls which once again was well supported both with entries and with willing customers for bulls. The highlight of this section was a run of Pure yearling Limousins from Messrs Rochester & Murray, Glebe Farm which saw a high of £2420.00 with others to £2300.00. Yearling Angus bulls from Holystone Estates, Farnham sold to £2020.00.
