Hexham and Northern Marts held its final sale of Store Cattle and Suckled Calves of November with an entry of 355 cattle from across Northumberland, Cumbria, Co, Durham and the Scottish Borders.
A typical end of season show of Store Cattle this week which varied in quality throughout. Strong forward stores yet again sell well once again, maintaining the previous weeks rates, all this despite the talk of a reduction in prime values in the up-and-coming weeks. This resulted in factual figures of £2151.02 average for steers with heifers leveling at £1872.29.
Two steers on the day sold to £2680.00, firstly a thumping Angus cross from G & JH Tomlinson & Son, Sunniside, this was then matched by a great Charolais cross from GA Ogle, Blackburn.
Ian Crammond, Armond Carr took a “later turn”, but this mattered none as he sold Limousin cross steers to £2550.00.
Heifers saw a high of £2550.00 for a classy Limousin cross from BW & GE Tailford, Beacon Rigg. Angus heifers peaked to £2500.00 for a pure-bred lady from J & E Campbell, Rosebrough.
Once again returning to the Hexham ring from Newton on The Moor was AJ & R Ord, Newton Greens who sold thirty middle aged Angus and Simmental cross heifers which sold to £2400.00 for Angus crosses and £2200.00 for Simmental crosses and leveled at £1868.67.
Once again proving no turn is a bad turn here at Hexham, JD Yeats, Woodhouse were the last consignment through the ring on the day and saw fifteen month old Blue cross steers sell to £2460.00.
Young cattle sold well once again at this centre and produced figures others could only fantasize about with steers average £1528.65 and heifers saw an eye watering trade and leveled at £1685.00. This was made even more remarkable with it being later in the season now and producers getting through their runs of cattle.
Leading the stirk section was a classy nine-month-old Limousin cross heifer from WD & B Thompson, East Unthank which sold to £2000.00. DH & HA Ivinson, Five Oaks Sawmill, Penrith sold eleven-month-old Angus cross heifers to £1800.00.
Steers peaked at £1980.00 twice today, firstly an Angus cross from ER & GI Younger, High Trewitt, this was then achieved again by WD & B Thompson, East Unthank with a Limousin cross.

Hexham & Northern Marts sold a catalogued entry of 5443 Store Lambs to another super trade to average a stunning £124.82 all in. Praise must go to all vendors still turning in such good stock in the end of November.
Top price of the day goes to B A & A M Storrow & Sons, Willimoteswick with a pair of Dutch Texel lambs at £182 and another from this home at £176.
The Little Harle Partnership brought a powerful run of Texel x lambs to top at £172 and average £151.54 for 104 lambs.
Charollais lambs reached £151 for a trio from B D Milburn, Butterknowes – this home averaged £142.27 for 49 shape lambs.
Mules reached £130 for 12 from R Pattinson, Temon with 9 more at £137 from T Nixon & Sons, Longlee.
Swales reached £91 from G W & C Athey, High Lovelady Shield.
Blackface lambs reached £100 from Mart Man Mr John Dixon of A & T Dixon, Chirdon.
