A reduced entry of clean cattle this week which met a similar trade to the previous week, a pair of super handy weight heifers from Messrs Graham, Miller Hill, Cumbria sold to 434.5p/kg and £2302.85 and another to 429.5p/kg.

Cast Cows & OTM
Another strong entry of 66 Cast Cattle was forward this week, although the overall show was plainer, with a higher proportion of the sale being made up of hill and leaner types. Despite this, all customers and classes of cattle were treated equally and sold very well throughout to transparent market, with cattle heading to their intended destinations of purchase.
The strength of demand resulted in an outstanding overall average of 281p/kg, driven by the large number of active purchasers ringside who are capable of handling all classes of cattle.
The sale peaked at 337.5p/kg for a Limousin cross cow from Ms S Martin, Hetheridge, while GR Scott & Son, Corneyside realised 325.5p/kg for a thirteen-year-old Limousin cross cow.
Top grossing cow honours went to R R Reay & Sons, West Moorhouses, with a heavyweight Limousin cross cow returning £2,629.95. A tremendous run of sixteen cast Angus and Simmental cross cattle from R Green, Heckley High House, Alnwick sold to £2,552.55 for once-calved heifers and £2,484.00 for older cows.
There was a noticeable increase in harder, hill-type cows forward, which continued to sell very well. Galloways from J Ions & Son, High Thorneyburn achieved 271.5p/kg and £1,645.29.
OTM and first-calved heifers remained in strong demand, selling to a high of 343.5p/kg for an AA cross from R Green, Heckley High House, while Luings from Bainbridge Farms, Donkin Rigg reached 341.5p/kg.

Hexham & Northern Marts sold 936 Prime Hoggs to a stronger trade with once again hoggs 43kg and below selling to great demand with plenty of bigger pens of hill hoggs forward.
Topping the sale at £192 was a tremendous Texel x hogg from N & P Rutherford, Irestone Farm.
