Cast Cows & OTM
Another fantastic entry of 97 Cast Cattle this week. A slightly plainer show of cows with a higher proportion of native bred cows this week. This said, these carried more flesh than last week.
A fantastic trade was observed which maintained last week’s extreme rates, especially for feeding sorts and left an increased average of 283ppk.
The sale topped at 367.5ppk for a smart Limousin Cross from J T Nixon & Sons, Stotsfold.
An outstanding Beef Shorthorn cross cow from J W Robson & Son, East Shaftoe went on to sell for 329.5ppk whilst a fit Angus Cross cow from W R Sparke & Son, Little Swinburne also raised the same value.
Highest grossing cow this week was a tank of a first crossed British Blue cow from R W Dixon, Hedley East Farm which achieved £2603.50.
With all classes eagerly bid for, no discrimination was seen for the foreign Dairy cows with Fleckvieh’s selling to 307.5ppk and £2091.00 from J H C Campbell & Sons, Thrunton.

Hexham & Northern Marts sold 1479 Prime Lambs to an increased demand for a wet show of more mixed lambs forward. Fed and handy weights sold with ease.
Topping the sale at £190 was a Suffolk x lamb from J C Rutherford, Old Town.
Top ppk was 400ppk for a Dutch Texel lamb from J W Smith-Jackson, Lipwood Well.
