Prime Cattle
A smaller entry of clean cattle this week with a useful entry of butchers’ heifers forward. Trade remained firm and in line with last weeks trade. Cumbrian finisher Mr T Pearson, High Plaskett Lands once again made the prosperous journey east to sell Limousin cross heifers to 409.5p/kg or £2559.38 and Charolais crosses to 401.5p/kg.

Cast Cows & OTM
A reduced entry of just 34 cast cattle this week fell well short of buyers’ requirements, resulting in a notably strong trade throughout. The limited availability of cows continues to drive demand, with buyers competing keenly and producing excellent returns.
Although the overall show was leaner compared to the previous week, trade remained highly satisfactory. Cows averaged in excess of 300p/kg, levelling at an impressive 305p/kg, highlighting the strength of the current market despite tighter numbers.
Leading the cast trade was a cracking Limousin cross cow from DA & MA Teasdale, Grindon Hill which realised 359.5p/kg. A fantastic run of well-fleshed Angus cross cows from Mr FT Walton, Flotterton sold very well to a high of 339.5p/kg and 337.5p/kg.
Highest grossing cows this week came from J Watson & Co, Bowsden Moor who made the trip down the A1 to sell Pure Charolais cows to £3082.75 and Pure Limousins to £3051.00.

Hexham and Northern Marts sold 1010 prime Hoggs to another very strong trade, dearer on the week with travelled and local sheep all keenly bid for. With a large show od Hill bred hoggs selling to strong rates.
Topping at £260 was a pair of well fed Texel hoggs from JJ & JM Sanders, Bavington Hill Head, whos run of 20 hoggs averaged £233.40.
Top p/kg was 470p/kg for a Dutch Spotted Hogg from J M Dickeson, Hope House.
