Three cracking heifers forward this week from T Pearson & Son, High Plaskett Lands who once again made the worthwhile trip from West Cumbria to sell well fleshed and finished BB x heifers to 415.5p/kg and £2451.45 and Limousin crosses to 403.5p/kg.

Cast Cows
Fewer numbers were forward this week, but vendors in attendance were rewarded with a fantastic trade, levelling at a leading average of 282p/kg and leaving alternative outlets well behind the pace. Although the entry was plainer overall and largely made up of feeding-type cows, trade remained firm throughout and was possibly sharper again for the plainer, feeding sorts.
Topping the sale this week was a flashy red Limousin cow from J & LA Baxter, The Monk, which cashed away at 329.5p/kg.
An increasing number of ex-parlour ladies are now taking advantage of the Hexham ring, with Ayrshires from G G Baynes & Son, Marley Cote Walls, selling to 255.5p/kg.
Big, heavy Angus cows were once again easily sold, typified by a tank of a pure cow from JF & JK Haywood & Son, Fell House, which realised 289.5p/kg and £2,779.20. Well-fleshed Beef Shorthorn cross cows from WR Sparke & Son, Little Swinburne, also met strong demand, selling to 287.5p/kg.

Hexham & Northern Marts sold 1019 Prime Lambs to a better-than-expected trade with heavy lambs still making strong prices and export weights meeting a little bit of resistance during the hot weather although still £38.37 and 85ppk up on the year for 337 more sold.
Topping the sale at £260 was a Texel x lamb from G H Walton & Sons, Greyside.
Top ppk came from J & E Walby & Sons, East House Farm who sold 3 Texel x lambs at 507ppk.
