St Johns Chapel Mart held its fortnightly sale of Store Lambs and presented another fantastic entry of 1920 Store Lambs and Feeding Ewes selling to a very strong trade again demonstrating itself as the best place to sell any classes of store lambs in County Durham.
Topping today was Mr I Collinson, Billing Shield with 11 thumping Suffolk x lambs at £149. This home also sold a pair at £144, another pair at £141, 18 sweety sorts at £140 and another 18 more at £136.
Texel x lambs reached £146 from D Scott, Longdale and £145 from R G Stobbs, High Wiserley.
Beltex x lambs were also good to sell, topping at £143 from C Everitt, Jolly Body.
Mule lambs are always well cashed at St Johns topping at £125 was first time vendor N & A Bainbridge, Laneside with 50 strong lambs. W Morley & Son, Warden Hill sold 13 also at £125 as well as 24 more at £124 from D Fletcher & D Coates, Short Thorns. 504 Mule lambs averaged £115.84.
St Johns is home to the Swaledale lamb and they are now appearing in force with 322 averaging £70.20 for not a lot of strength. Topping at £100 was Weardale Estates with 84 more from J R D & J A Short, Ouston making £85. Many more Swales wanted as well as all classes wanted for the next sale on Saturday 3rd October.
Show & Sale of Mule Gimmer lambs at St Johns Chape this Friday the 25th starting at 10.30, followed by Show & Sale of Swaledale Ewes this Saturday the 26th, also starting at 10.30.
