A very mixed show of clean cattle this week with flesh a premium. Topping the sale was a stylish Blonde x heifer from M W & C M Ridley, Shitlington Hall which sold to 435.5ppk.

Cast Cows & OTM

A record entry of Cast Cattle descended on the Hexham ring which attracted new purchased to the already busy ringside and enhanced the firepower.

Great rates of returns were seen and built on from last week’s terrific trade and saw a high of 355.5ppk for a Limousin cross from J Lee & Sons, Agars Hill.

J & A Moralee, Hard Riding bought a very well fleshed British Blue cross cow which realised 351.5ppk.

Highest grossing cow this week was a monstrous Pure Angus from J H C Campbell & Son, Thrunton sold to £3248.75.

Feeding cows benefited from the extra ringside purchaser and would be dearer by 5-10ppk.

One of the sales highlights was an overaged British Friesian steer from J R & D W Robson, Close House which weighted 1290kg and realised 247.5ppk and £3192.75.

The sale of 116 Cast Cattle went on to average 381ppk and just £2 shy of £2000.

Hexham & Northern Marts sold Prime Lambs to a sharper trade on the week with best fleshed & fed lambs a very good trade.

Topping the sale at £260 or 491ppk was a Texel x lamb sold for charity to MacMillan Cancer Support & Palliative Care Unit Durham, kindly donated by Mark Emerson, Haggate and bought by Mr Andrew Atkinson.

Out with the charity lamb, the sale topped at £178 for a Texel x lamb from D F brodie, Chesters.

Top ppk was 434.2ppk for a Texel x lamb from J H Emerson, Haggate.
