The small offering of butcher’s heifers met another firm trade and sold well and to a high of 398.5p/kg for a Charolais cross heifer from C & C Farming, Flotterton.

Small offering of over aged beasts this week which saw a high of 316.5p/kg for a Limousin cross from JR & DW Robson, Close House. First calved Angus heifers from AR Lawson & Son, Hallington South Farm sold to 309.5p/kg.

Cast Cows
Fewer numbers forward today but an increased offering of Stock Bulls within the sale. The trade observed was very similar to the previous last two weeks despite pressure from processors. The better end of continental cows still cashing beyond 290p/kg. Once again, the best end of well-bred and well finished native bred cows very easily and beyond 300p/kg.
A pair of cows lead the sale this week, firstly a with a very stylish Limousin cross cow was R Thornton & Sons, Cornhills which sold to 307.5p/kg followed by a Pure Limousin from NS & C Robinson, Burmoor. Highest grossing cow this week was a monster of an 11-year-old Pure Angus cow from AR Lawson & Son, Hallington South Farm which achieved £3029.60.

Prime Lambs
Hexham & Northern Marts sold 1526 Prime Lambs to a slightly reduced trade however leaner and lighter sorts worth more in the store.
The sale topped at £210 twice, firstly from R H Oliver, White House then a lamb from E & I Hall & Sonn, New Houses.
The top ppk was 421.3ppk for a pair from E & I Hall & Son, New Houses.
