A small entry of butchers’ heifers forward sold to a nice trade and slightly dearer again and to a high of 403.5p/kg for a Limousin cross from Messrs Reay & Walton, St. Oswalds.

Cast Cows
A reduced entry of Cast Cattle on the week met the same level of demand and a trade to match last week’s high rates. Better end of continental bred cows easily surpassing 320p/kg. A largely leaner show forward this week with very few carrying flesh. The sale sold to a high of 331.5p/kg twice for Limousin crosses from J Lee & Sons, Agars Hill.
Lead grossing cow was a hefty Angus cross cow from J Pritchard, Evistones which sold to £2491.28 whilst a Limousin cross from Messrs Charlton, Whiteside sold to £2390.75.
Highest priced cast bull was an Aberdeen Angus from K Smith & Son, East Greenridge which sold to £2673.00.

Hexham & Northern Marts sold 1449 Prime Lambs to a dearer trade with more buyers ringside keen for all classes.
Topping the sale at £259 was a pair of thumping Texel x lambs from J H Emerson, Haggate.
Top ppk was a trio of Texel x lambs from G Morley, Craighall at 457.8ppk.
