An increase in numbers this week with a lighter show on offer. Trade maintained last weeks rates and saw Limousin cross heifers from Messrs Reay & Walton, St Oswalds sell to 409.5p/kg and the same home selling Charolais cross heifers sell to £2392.45.
More clean cattle needed for next week’s sale.

A small offering of Young Bulls forward this week from C & S Armstrong, Middle Moor. These bulls were well finished and sold to a high of 383.5p/kg for an Angus cross and grossed to £2509.31 for a Simmental cross. More bulls could easily be sold each week and numbers needed for next week.

Cast Cows & OTM
An outstanding trade for Cast Cows and Bulls was observed today with all classes dearer and in real demand and proves large numbers of cattle can be handled with ease in this centre with another 100 plus day seen.
All manner of types forward which were all bid eagerly for. Leaner hill types dearer on the week with many cashing in excess of 270p/kg. Better and well-fleshed continental types regularly surpassing 330p/kg and in real demand.
The 111 cows that graced the Hexham ring today were well rewarded and created an enviable average of 290p/kg right across the board! Beef bred cows saw an unrivalled trade and averaged 295p/kg and a grossing value of £2088.20. The ex. parlour ladies levelled at 238p/kg and grossed to £1449.74.
Leading the sale at 357.5p/kg was a Limousin cross cow from an excellent run of well finished continental cross cows from J E Woodman & Son, Great Chesters which sold to Mr O Llyr, Ruthin.
Stabiliser cows were very easily sold today with all classes forward but these topped at 345.5p/kg from East Haydon.
A fantastic run of ten cows from North of Alnwick from Messrs Robertson, Embleton Mill 343.5p/kg for Limousin cross but also sold over aged Angus cross heifers to 385.5p/kg.
Angus cross cows peaked at 331.5p/kg twice today, firstly from Mr FT Walton, Flotterton then followed by another Alnwick producer, Mr R Green, Heckley High House.
A pair of cows grossed over £3000.00 today, firstly an absolute tank of a Limousin cross cow from J E Woodman & Son, Great Chesters selling to £3301.25 and then followed by a Simmental cross from Mr R Green, Heckley High House selling to £3002.45.
British Friesian cows from T M Reed, Rennys Barn sold to £2044.00 and 255p/kg whilst Holsteins from JW Metcalf, Palm Strothers peaked at 247.5p/kg.

Topping the sale at £180 was a Suffolk hogg from S Braines, Holmside Cottage Farm.
Top ppk was 366.ppk for a pair of Texel x hoggs from I Potts & Sons, Ltd, Hedley Park.
