August’s opening sale at Hexham Auction Mart saw a small select entry of cattle sell to resounding trade with vendors expectations well and truly exceeded.
The sale topped at £2080 for an Aberdeen Angus bullock from J & A Thompson, The Ash.
This builds momentum for next Friday’s Anniversary Show & Sale, with numbers demanded for a large contingent of buyers, both local and well-travelled, expected to be present.

Hexham & Northern Marts sold 1052 Cast Ewes & Tups to a far stronger trade with all classes keenly bid for.
Topping the sale at £338 was a pair of Texel ewes from R Thornton & Sons, Cornhills who sold 7 to average £300.
Suffolk x ewes sold to £248 for 5 from Foley Bros, Mirlaw House who sold 50 Suffolk x Mule ewes to average £194.68.
Mule ewes sold to £208 for a trio from Mirlaw House.
Welsh Mule ewes sold top £190 from C Dawson, Nunstainton.
Blackface ewes sold to £161 for 13 from W & J A Longlands, Rusheylaw.
Swale ewes sold to £120 for a pair from B W S Verrill, Sundaysight.

Hexham & Northern Marts sold a catalogued entry of 3713 Store Lambs to a dearer trade.
Topping the sale at £178 was a superb Texel x lamb from W L Patterson & Son, Broomhope who sold 52 to average £153.40.
A tremendous run of Beltex x lambs from M & N Gray, Low Espley sold to £174 with 35 averaging £159.69.
Oli Harrison, Aimshaugh came with his usual run of 262 tremendous Texel x lambs to top at £156 for two pens of 20 and averaged £136.43.
D Burn, Carrycoats sold a great run of 50 Texel x lambs to average £140.02 topping at £157 for 15.
Suffolk x lambs sold to £148 for a pair from R H & J I Gould, Stobbilee.
A run of Exlana lambs from G T Anderson, Fairnley topped at £144 for a pen of 14.
Mule lambs sold to £128 for 16 from H & L Morshead, Harsondale.
