Another decent entry of cows this week but unbelievably a sharper trade again, even after last weeks great returns. All classes sharper with fresh faces added to the current strong line up of purchasers ensured a fast-paced sale throughout.
Leading the sale with a flashy young Limousin x cow and selling to 379.5ppk was Messrs Urwin & Robson, Parmontley Hall.
Pure Charolais cows from K Lumley, Newbiggin sold to 335.5ppk and £2952.40.
Some big heavy cows forward today with W J Scott Ltd, Low Leam taking full advantage of Hexham’s cast ring with a Blonde x cow weighing well at 1070kg and selling to £3354.45.
Another weighing well was an Angus cross cow from Messrs Watmore, Holystone Estate, Low Farnham which tipped the scales an 1020kg and sold to £3156.90.
Native bred cows saw a sizeable lift this week with Holystone Estates selling a 9-year-old cows to 311.5ppk.
An unrivalled average of £1971.61 or 285ppk was achieved today – more cows could easily be marketed and numbers now being taken for next week.

Hexham & Northern Marts sold 1924 Prime Lambs to an improved trade for a very wet show forward.
Topping the sale at £188 was a huge Texel x lamb from G & E A Herdman, Luns Houses.
Top ppk was a pair of Beltex x lambs at 440.5ppk from J H Emerson, Haggate.
