A small entry of clean this week which met slight resistance this week and would be a shade easier and these sold to 411.5p/kg and £2600.68 for a homebred Limousin cross from T W Dinning & Son, Watch Currock.

Cast Cows & OTM
A slightly stronger show of Cast Cattle this week compared with last week’s offering, with more fleshed and better continental-type cows forward. These met another excellent trade throughout and were similar to last week’s levels, if not slightly sharper. The top-end continental cows in particular met genuine demand, with genuine active competition from multiple purchasers ringside. This resulted in a very competitive sale, averaging 286p/kg for 52 cast cattle.
Leading the trade was a pair of outstanding cows from Mr J Smith Jackson, Lipwood, selling to 381.5p/kg. First was a very stylish five-year-old Limousin cross, previously shown successfully at national level as a heifer, followed by a shapely seven-year-old Blue cross cow, which sold to regular supporter Mr O Llyr, Ruthin.
Angus cross cows sold to 311.5p/kg on two occasions: firstly, a non-assured five-year-old from Mr R J Graham, The Gennell, and secondly a big, square pure Angus from JL & M Wilkinson & Son, Bollihope Shield Farm.
Pure Simmental cows travelled north from Darlington via the A68 from C Parker & Son, Newsham Grange, selling to 307.5p/kg.
A strong run of nine pure South Devon cows from WR & J Barron, The Deans sold to 305.5p/kg, topping at £2,214.88.
Plenty of leaner feeding types once again regularly achieved 280–285p/kg. More cattle are required over the coming weeks.

A varied entry of OTMs sold to great demand this week with new customers T & JW Renner, Yetlington Farm taking full advantage of Hexham’s competitive rings side and selling 35-month-old Angus cross heifers to 341.5p/kg. Regular customers W H Smith & Sons, West Shields also brought Angus crosses and these sold to 339.5p/kg.

Hexham & Northern Marts sold 1486 Prime Hoggs to a dearer trade with handy weights selling to extreme demand. Overall average 335ppk or £150.53 with an SQQ of 355.3ppk.
Topping the sale twice at £200 was Beltex x hoggs from Messrs Pattinson, Pinfold House who was one of nine Weardale vendors at Hexham today.
Top ppk was 428.6ppk for a Texel x from T W Dinning & Son, Watch Currock.
