Store Cattle
Hexham & Northern Marts at their weekly sale of store cattle offered a small and mixed entry as is common at this time of year. With almost as many men round the ring as cattle that were sold through it trade looked in line with recent levels selling to a top of £1810 for a super black Limmy bullock at 20 months from Alfie & John Marr, Old Ravensworth, Gateshead. The entire entry averaged £1258 per head throughout proving despite the meagre catalogue that trade and demand remains strong at this centre.

Cast Ewes
Hexham and Northern Marts sold 766 Cast Ewes to a tremendous trade from start to finish for a fantastic display of all breeds.
The £200 pound barrier was broke on several occasions today, taking top spot was a pair of strong Texel Ewes reaching £262 from Miss J Carins, Rouchester. JA Gilson, Heugh Farm, W & J A Longlands, Rusheylaw & Messrs Hall, Barker House also broke the £200 barrier with some exceptional sheep forward.
A highlight of the sale was the best run of Suffolk Ewes seen in the Mart for many years, topping this section was a superb run of 35 from Mr F W Robson, South Farm at £159. Suffolk crosses were in demand with 145 averaging £145.36.
Mules peaked at £135 on two occasions. Firstly for a run of 29 from Messrs W & J A Longlands, Rusheylaw and then for a pen of 6 from Messrs Foley Brothers, Mirlaw House.
Blackface ewes sold to a top of a straight £100 from Messrs G Carins & Ptrs, Broomhall.

Store Lambs
Hexham and Northern Marts held their Opening Sale of Store Lambs with 1185 Catalogued. Lambs looked fresher on the year with an overall sale average of £94.12 (up £2 on the year).
Mr J Ridley, Wittonshields took top spot in todays sale with a cracking pen of 12 Texel cross lambs selling to £119.
The trade was set by the first lambs into the ring sold for £116 for 6 from Messrs J Spours & Son, Yetlington Lane.
The annual tremendous run from Messrs Graham, Stone Hall. Selling a pen of 42 Texel cross lambs to £114 with their run of 204 averaging £104.14.
A pair of Mule Lambs sold to £100 from Messrs Weatherson, Edges Green.
Suffolk cross lambs realized £100 from Mr R H Frater, Moorlaws.
