Hexham Sale of Store Cattle & Store Sheep
CATTLE
A seasonally small show of store cattle were present to a very lively ringside of buyers. Nothing can be written to give justice to the trade witnessed today, as all vendors left ecstatic.

EWES
Hexham & Northern Marts sold 1010 Cast Sheep to a stronger than expected trade with a large proportion of horned lean ewes.
The sale topped at £280 for a pair from J T Nixon & Son, Stotsfold. Not far behind was a pair of Texels at £278 from W & J A Longlands, Rusheylaw. R Thornton & Sons, Cornhills sold 4 Texel ewes at £276 and 6 at £274 and 2 at £270.
Suffolk cross ewes sold to £213 for 8 from R F Rogerson, Harbottle Grange.
Blueface Leicester ewes sold to £200 from J Bowes, Glenwhelt House.
Rusheylaw also topped the Mules, selling 5 to £183.
A very small entry of Blackface ewes sold to £152 from J D Walton & Son, Burnbank.
With a large entry of Swaledale ewes making up this weeks hill section with Low Bleakhope selling 11 to £137.

STORE LAMBS
Hexham & Northern Marts sold a catalogued entry of 4603 Store Lambs to another cracking trade to average all in a huge £136.46, fit lambs, big lambs, small lambs, we don’t mind, everything is in demand and wanted here at Hexham.
Topping today at £189 was a pair of shapey sorts from R Thornton & Sons, Cornhills who also sold 5 more at £164.
C Dawson, Nunstainton brought another quality run of 150 Texel x lambs to average a pleasing £157 peaking at £178 for 35.
One highlight of the day was Mr O Harrison, Aimshaugh run of 481 ridiculously well-bred lambs which peaked at £178 for 13 thumbers, 17 at £170 and 10 more at £167, to average a stunning £142.91 for 481 lambs sold.
Suffolks were well cashed today with lambs to £161 from D A Harrison, Woodlands and 52 quality lambs from J Herdman, Edlingham Newtown to average £152.54.
Mule lambs are now beginning to creep in today at £134 from W Bell, Waterloo all Mule lambs averaged £177.88.
Cheviot Mules sold to £137 and £130 for 47 and 35 from W & R Halls, Allensgreen.
