Cast Cows

A seasonal entry of 29 cast cattle was forward this week, with many vendors busy with the start of lambing. Quality was plainer, with very little flesh on offer. Trade, however, remained as strong as in previous weeks. The sale topped at 326.5p/kg for a Hereford cross cow from I Potts & Sons Ltd, Hedley Park. The top grossing cow was a Limousin cross from Reed Partners, Dyke Nook, selling for £2,492.00.

A pair of overaged bullocks from T G Temple & Son, Low Hall sold to 357.5p/kg for a Limousin cross and grossed to £2707.25 for a British Blue cross.

The sole cast bull forward was a Charolais from E M Bertram, Coldwell which sold to 279.5p/kg and £2655.25.

Prime Cattle

A slightly plainer show of clean cattle this week but those forward carried flesh and sold well considering the current prime cattle values. This weeks sale was topped by a pair of well finished first cross Blue Heifers from WY & R W Ryle Farming, South Acton sold to 399.5p/kg and £2472.75. T & JW Renner, Yetlington brought a nice selection of Hereford and Angus cross heifers which cashed away nicely to 363.5p/kg for a thick Hereford cross.

Prime Hoggs

Hexham and Northern Marts sold a reduced entry of 379 Prime Hoggs with many local producers mid lambing. This week 1/3 of the sale was made up of Swaledale Hoggs.

Topping at £240 was a Texel cross Hogg from Messrs Teasdale, Kellah.

T T Walker Ltd, East Town Farm topped the 463.0p/kg this week with light weight Texel cross Hoggs.
