Hexham Bull Sale
The began with the show for breeding bulls which was kindly presided over by Mr W White, Whitrighill Farm, Melrose and once again kindly sponsored by The Fold Farm Vets and NFU Mutual (Hexham Branch). The overall champion today across the four breed classes was the Limousin class winner from J Watson & Co, Bowsden Moor, Tweeddale Venables. An easy calving Lukeroyal Robin son that went on to sell for 6500gns. Standing Reserve Overall was the sole British Blue entry, again from J Watson & Co, Bowsden Moor, Tweeddale Uppercrust. Sired by Gass Okay, this big, long stretchy bull sold to 6000gns.
The first prized Angus bull Kirkley Hall Eli a Wedderlie Fortitude son was brought out exceptionally well by the students of Kirkley Hall and went on to sell for 5500gns. Herefords saw a high of 4,000gns for Auckvale 1 Bolder from W & R Kemp, Wigdon Walls.
Away from the prize winners, highest priced bull on the day was the second bull through the ring from Otterburn producer, J E Carruthers, Silloans, Redesdale Vulcan. This Haltcliffe Topgun son caught the eye of many and sold to 8,000gns to renowned Hexham store cattle producer, G & EA Herdman, Luns House.

Heifers & Calves
This years May Show and Sale for breeding cattle was very ably judged by reputable Alston suckled calve producers John & Alan Walton, Farnbury. Taking the overall championship this year was first time vendors, R King & Son, Gospel Hall, Jedburgh with a very stylish but powerful Limousin cross heifer with her month old Limousin cross heifer calf. This took the days highest price and sold to the judges for £5400.00.
Trade on the day was better than previously expected with plenty of suckler producers still eager to source quality outfits as their herd replacements and would be very similar to last years trade.
The annual consignment from J R G Johnson, West Wharmley created great interest and sold well and surpassed all expectations. This great run of sixteen heifers and calves saw a high of £5050.00 for a Limousin cross heifer with her Limousin cross steer calf. This home enjoyed a very level trade throughout and saw great demand for a small entry of first crossed heifers and calves and saw a great average of £4328, a rise of £200.00 on the year.
A level entry of homebred Limousin and Angus cross heifers from Mr FT Walton, Flotterton sold to a high of £4500.00 for a lovely black Limousin cross heifer with her shapey Limousin cross steer calf.

A small but handy entry of bulling heifers met a nice trade for what was presented and sold to a high of £2650 on three occasions for Limousin heifers from W & N Knaggs & Son, East Newbiggin Farm.

Part Dispersal of Low Middleton Livestock
The company were favored with the first part of the dispersal of the Low Middleton Livestock herd of commercial cows and calves. A great run of ¾ beef bred heifers and cows and calves that have a great reputation for breeding some fantastic suckler calves. These sold to a high of £5200.00 for a very flashy British Blue cross heifer with her Limousin cross steer calf sired by Swarland Nobby.
