Christmas Primestock Show & Sale

Cattle

Prime Cattle

This weeks prime cattle sale saw our annual Christmas Primestock take place which was once again well supported with a terrific entry of 51 clean cattle from right across the North of England.

This year the task of Judging was given to Mr S Wilson, Corby Hill, Carlisle, who was extremely meticulous throughout.

After much deliberation Mr Wilson chose the British Blue x steer from Mr S Graham, Miller Hill as the overall champion, pipping a very well finished Limousin x heifer from Messrs Clark & Son, Paxton Dene into reserve.

Overall Reserve and 1st Prize Limousin Heifer – Clark, Paxton Dene

Credit to all that exhibited cattle as it was commented several times that it was one of the best entries of prime cattle seen at the centre.

Those that brought cattle were rewarded with a terrific trade throughout, with heifers especially in demand.

Leading the sale and taking full advantage of the Hexham ring to gain full value was a very flashy Black Limousin Cross heifer from renowned Limousin breeders, Messrs A & D Proctor, Swarland Old Hall. After some frantic bidding, the heifer finished off at 429.5ppk and bought on behalf of B & T Kitson, Northallerton.

The overall champion on the day, the British Blue x steer from Messrs Graham, Miller Hill, went on to realise 415ppk and was bought by the judge Mr Steven Wilson, The Butcher Shop Corby Hill for his new shop freshly opened in Brampton.

The YFC Champion this year was once again won by Miss Rachel Graham, Miller Hill, who bought the red Limousin heifer from Hexham in the spring from Messrs A & D Proctor of Swarland. This went on to sell for 381.5ppk and sold to regular supporters R Pearson Wholesale Butchers, Bradford.
