Beef Breeding Cattle

Hexham & Northern Marts held their annual prize show and sale of beef breeding cattle and offered 133 quality outfits from across the North of England.

This years pre sale show was judged by Father and Daughter, Mark and Charlotte Longlands, Rusheylaw and this years show and sale was kindly sponsored by Watson Machinery, Tow Law.

Overall Champion Heifer with Calf – Messrs Foley Brothers, Mirlaw House

Reserve Overall Champion Heifer with Calf – Mr JRG Johnson, West Wharmley

The Overall Championship and the John Riddle trophy was awarded to the tremendously correct and upstanding first prize Limousin cross heifer and her heifer calf exhibited by The Foley Bros. Mirlaw House, Capheaton.  The three-quarter bred heifer and her smart heifer calf comprised to make a superb outfit which caught the eye of all in the market and went on to sell for £3450.00.

Messrs Foley Brothers, Mirlaw House topped the sale also on the day with fantastic Limousin x heifer with her Limousin x steer calf at foot selling to £3700.00.

The same home took also took advantage of the increasing demand of native bred breeding stock, selling an Angus x heifer with her Limousin x steer calf at foot for £3600.00.

Quality outfits were in real demand and a third of the sale of heifers and calves broke the Three thousand pound barrier.

After the heifers and calves there was a small offering of Cows and Calves which sold to £3350 for a Pure Limousin second calved cow and her Bull calf from Renton & Redden Partners, Stewartslaw.

In calf heifers were also in demand and sold to a high of £2400.00 for a pair of black Limousin x’s from Messrs Foley Brothers, Mirlaw House.

A small offering of bulling heifers forward today, a squad of first cross Blue heifers from the tops of Weardale, consigned by David and Harrison Collingwood, Intake sold very well to £1520.00 and £1440.00.
