Store Lambs

St Johns Chapel Market held its fortnightly sale of Store Lambs and presented a fantastic, catalogued entry of 2856 Store Lambs and Feeding Ewes. This included the Show & Sale of Young Handlers lambs which had fantastic support with 19 keen young stocksmen and women who each presented quality store lambs, which was judged by Josie Mallinson who we thank for her support.

Topping the lambs fittingly was the 1st prize young handlers lamb from Ruby Welch, Park View a shapey Blue Texel lamb selling for £280 with other shapey lambs from this home selling to £230.

D & P Heppel, Hill Crest also sold quality shapey lambs to £172 & £168.

R Collingwood, Stewartshield Meadows sold 7 smart Suffolk cross lambs to £162 and another 8 more at £155.

Other smart Suffolk cross lambs sold to £160, this was 2nd prize young handlers lamb, from George Wearmouth, Rosehill which was well held by the young shepherd all morning.

The roads leading from Teesdale to Chapel are frequently used by many farmers this time F & M P Allinson, West Briscoe made the worthwhile trip over selling sweet Texel x lambs to £145 and £143 with a strong pen of Mules to £124.

W Wearmouth, Rosehill brought a great run of Continental x lambs selling 9 to £140, others to £138 and £136 and 37 more at £133.

Swaledale lambs are best sold at St Johns Chapel, this time 907 graced the ring albeit not as dear as the last sale they still sold to strong rates. Top price was another Harwood man, PD & J Johnson, Herdship selling a strong pen of Swales to £92. J T & E F Golightly, Lilswood peaked with his Swales at £90.
