Store Cattle & Store Sheep

Store Cattle

Hexham & Northern Marts at their weekly sale of store cattle offered a small, mixed catalogue of 114 head of store cattle and a firmer trade was evident throughout.

The sale peaked at £1900 for a super pen of hefty, forward Angus bullocks at 16 months of age; both well-grown and in gleaming fettle from Michael Dixon, The Stobbs, Rochester who sold 8 strong steers to average £1720 from the high tops of Redesdale.

The Telfer Brothers, Make-Me-Rich Farm, Capheaton continue to benefit from their relatively recent switch to the store ring at this centre on a regular basis and topped the continental trade with forward Limmy cross steers to £1810 with heifer sisters to £1690. The noted stockmen brothers sold five of each to average £1702 for the steers and £1438 for heifers to round off another fruitful day at Hexham.

Messrs Walton, Greyside, Newbrough are noted for their top-quality cattle through the Hexham ring and another nice run of Limmy cross yearling types topped at £1700 for bullocks and £1490 for heifers.

With finished values steadily rising early indicators are pointing in a positive direction for the annual October prize shows and sales of store cattle which are now only a month away. If you would like to discuss the benefits of consigning cattle for sale at Hexham kindly contact auctioneers Chris Armstrong or Drew Patrick on 01434 605444 for prompt and professional advice.

The entire entry of cattle sold on this day averaged an encouraging £1301 per head.
