Another fantastic entry of 2565 Store Lambs and Feeding Ewes gathered at St Johns Chapel for another cracking trade on a wet and wild day in Weardale. Vendors from Weardale, Teasdale, Alston, Hexhamshire and the Lake District braved the weather and were well rewarded.
The sale topped at £260 for a Bluefaced Leicester Ewe Lamb kindly donated by St Johns Chapel directors which sold to Mr John Bowes in aid of Weardale and Teasdale Mountain rescue.
Charollais cross lambs reached £146 from N Demuschamp, Park View who also sold another pen at £136.
A Peart & Son, Woodcroft brought another great run of strong Texel cross lambs to a top of £143 and averaged a pleasing £126.08 for 100 sold.
P W Iredale, Greenbank was well rewarded for another trip to St Johns from Patterdale with well bred lambs to £138, averaging £119.92 for 53 smart lambs.
Mule lambs proved easy to sell topping at £136 from L M Hutchinson, Pease Myers who also sold 14 more at £124. R Collingwood, Stewartshield Meadows sold to £128. The Highlight goes to T A Collingwood, Ambling Gate who sold a pen of 115 Mules to reach £127, 613 Mule lambs sold to average a stunning £111.62.
Although perhaps trade of the day went to 991 Swale lambs that all in average a whopping £76.83. Topping at £99 was previously mentioned T A Collingwood, Ambling Gate with 22 strong lambs reaching this figure and then filling the ring once more with 103 Swales making £92. Messrs Green Hill Farm sold 18 Swales at £94 and Messrs Lumley, Nookton sold 18 to £93, this home sold 208 Swales to average £85.17.
Feeding Ewes were also well cashed topping at £171 from N Demischamp, Park View with Mules to £128 from J Walshaw & Son, Dryderdale.
