CAST COWS
An increase in Cast Cow numbers this week met a much faster and dearer trade compared to that seen this past month. More demand for all classes observed today with a healthy lift of 20-25p/kg.
A larger entry of better Continental cross cows this week compared to recent weeks which sold well and to 351.5p/kg for a smart BB x cow from E M Bertram, Coldwell. Making the successful trip down from Berwick with a great run of cows was J MacGregor, East Loanend whose Limousin crosses sold to 347.5p/kg and £2780.00.
Angus bred cows sold extremely well here once again at Hexham and obliterated any other alternative local outlets with JHC Campbell & Sons, Thrunton selling pure bred cows to 323.5p/kg and £2817.50 for another. S H Spours & Son, Twizell was another from the North of the county enjoying a trip down to Hexham and sold a nice packet of well-fed Angus cross cows to 287.5p/kg and taking the highest grossing value of the day of £2846.25.
Black and white, ex. Parlour ladies saw a serious lift with Peepy Farm Ltd, Peepy selling Holstein Friesians to 289.5p/kg and 269.5p/kg.
Leaner, feeding types of cows also saw a sizeable lift of 15-20p/kg with many older, lean types selling in excess of 255-265p/kg.
