Store Cattle

Hexham & Northern Marts at their weekly sale offered an entry of 203 beef bred Store Cattle from across the region.

Taking top spot this week was a super Limousin cross heifer from Paul & Frank Hutchinson, Kettleburn, Belford which at 24 months scaled to £2580.

This was followed by a 22-month-old Charolais cross bullock from The Telfer Bros, Make-Me-Rich that travelled to £2470 and was closely followed at £2460 for a 21-month-old Angus bullock from Edward Heslop, Colwell Demesne.

A super run of Angus cross calves were brought down to Hexham by Messrs Wilson, Ingram Farm and these topped at £2100 for a well-grown heifer. This run also produced a great pen of 10 that sold together at 16-17 months for the handsome figure of £1740 – an achievement indeed when such northern upland valleys have faced the arid summer and a shortage of grass.

The youngest class of calves at 9-11 months of age saw heifers top at £2000 for a superb Limmy cross from Edward Cuthbert, Low Town whilst steers scaled to £1840 from Hector & Roger Rutherford, Low Eshells.

Please note – No sale of Store Cattle on Friday 12th September due to Kelso Ram Sales.
