Cast Cows & OTM

Hexham Cast Cattle ring on a Tuesday just goes from strength to strength and observes one of the largest entries of cattle ever seen for June. An entry of 85 cast cows and bulls was assembled from right across the North of England with new customers from across the Scottish Borders also reaping the rewards. Trade again was extremely competitive and would be very much in line with last week’s extreme rates with leaner, feeding types possibly even dearer!

The entry this week consisted of leaner with more native cows forward compared to last weeks superstar entry. This saying, an untouchable average of 280p/kg and an enviable grossing value of £1939.69. Leading today’s entry was a very well fleshed Limousin from Messrs Rochester & Murray, Glebe Farm which sold to 334.5p/kg. This was followed by a smart pair of Limousins from A & D Proctor, Swarland Old Hall which realised 329.5p/kg and 327.5p/kg.

Leading this week’s natives was a young Angus cross cow from Harnham Farming Ltd, Harnham which achieved 319.5p/kg. D J & JE Lumley, Nookton sold a great Angus cow to 317.5p/kg. A nice run of well fleshed Friesian and Holstein cows from I D Renwick, Fellside sold attracted great attention and sold to a high of 257.5p/kg for a British Friesian.

Top grossing cow was a well fleshed Limousin cross cow from M W & CM Ridley, Shitlington Hall which sold to £2736.15. R & J Crammond, Armond Carr sold a lump of a British Blue cross cow which sold to £2703.83.
