Charolais cross heifers sold to 269.5ppk from Mr F T Walton, Flotterton to Thompson Wholesale Meat Ltd.

Highest grossing clean beast came from Messrs A Hall & Sons, Barker House with a Charolais cross heifer realising £1633.70.

Cast Cows & OTM

The opening sale of cast cattle of 2023 proved to be a prosperous one for the vendors today. Cow trade took a lift for a very mixed show.

Better continental cows especially in high demand with Limousin cross cows from Messrs T R & E A Milburn, Wallend selling to 229.5ppk.

Highest grossing cow came from Mrs V S Allgood, Nunwick with a British Blue cross selling to £1657.20.

Hexham and Northern Marts sold 906 Prime Hoggs to a two-tier trade. Anything with flesh and weight selling well however leaner and lighter weights harder to place. 20% of the sale were 39kg or below.

Topping the sale at £139 was the first lamb in the ring from Mr A Peart, Woodcroft.

Top ppk was a pen of 6 Beltex x lambs at 280ppk from Messrs E & I Hall & Son, New Houses.
